June 29, 1784

THE EDINBURGH ADVERTISER, Scotland, June 29, 1784  Page 4 has a brief item noting: "The celebrated Dr. Benjamin Franklin was on 'Change to-day, and looks remarkably well for one of the age of 85; he appeared to be in high spirits."
Page 3 mentions in part: "...arrived here [Edinburgh] the Rev. Dr. Witherspoon, late a member of the American Congress...several gentlemen gave an elegant entertainment to the Doctor at Fortune's...." with more on him. Rare to find period mention of John Witherspoon, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
Also mention that: "The Americans are sick of the French & esteem the British the same as it the war had not happened. The French late the Americans...Americans look upon all the British who have come in here since the war as their friends, & treat them as such."
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 12 inches, nice condition.
