NEW YORK HERALD, Aug. 14, 1873  The top of page 5 has a column with heads: "INDIAN SLAUGHTER" "Great Battle in the Republican Valley" "Bloody Fight Between the Pawnees and Sioux" "Sky Chief, Squaw and Papoose Among the Slaughtered" "Pawnees' Loss in Dead and Wounded Over 100" "Horrible Barbarity Of The Sioux".
This is a quite lengthy and detailed account of the battle of Massacre Canyon, fought in Nebraska. It was one of the last hostilities between the Pawnee and the Sioux and the last battle/massacre between Great Plains Indians in North America.
Complete in 10 pages, great condition.
