Among the various reports in this famous newspaper is a back page item which notes: "The legislature of the state of Tennessee adjourned on Monday...The Bill to suppress the sale and use of bowie knives deserves to be reckoned among the most salutary acts passed by the ...assembly...Its provisions will effectually stay the use & sale of one of the most bloody instruments of death known to the present age & every friend of humanity & good order must rejoice..." and a bit more.
