FRANK LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED, New York, Sept. 20, 1862 The prime piece in this issue is the terrific & very large four page foldout, the top half of which has: "Second Day of the Battle of Bull Run...National Forces Commanded by Major General Pope & the Rebel Troops by Generals Lee, Jackson & Longstreet", and the bottom half shows "The Great National Bakery for the U.S. Army..." and "Pass of Rio Frio on the Road from Vera Cruz to the City of Mexico".
This large foldout is more typically cut in half due to the binding and trimming process. But since this issue was never bound nor trimmed--and care was taken through the years to preserve its integrity--the foldout remains in one piece, albeit with some wear at the margins and fold junctures.
The ftpg. of the issue shows: "Life in the Army--Gambling Establishment in the Woods..." and an inside page has the top third of a doublepage spread showing a scene from the Battle of Bull Run and a print of "Fort Snelling, Minnesota...".
Sixteen pages, various foxing, minor margin wear, generally good.
