Autherine Lucy becomes 1st black student to enroll at the University of Alabama...

* Autherine Lucy becoming 1st black student to enroll


The front page has a nice headline "World Backs Negro Coed, But Ike Just Waits" Also a one column heading: "Alabama U. Editor His Shameful Riot" and photo of Lucy. (see) Coverage on the demonstrations at the University of Alabama as Autherine Lucy prepares to become the first African American to attend classes at the university.
The issue is complete in 8 pages, tabloid size, some spine wear with small tear at the central fold, otherwise quite nice.

Note: The Daily Worker was a newspaper published in New York City by the Communist Party USA - the publication ending in the mid 1950's.
