September 01, 1849

SATURDAY EVENING POST, Philadelphia, Sept. 1, 1849  Page 3 has: "From California" with the latest news, bits including: "...gold is to be obtained only by hard labor, in large quantities. I saw a number who came from the 'diggins' with from two to three thousand dollars and a ruined constitution from exposure and an unhealthy climate. Labor is uncommonly high...Sailors are getting $250 a month..." with much more.
The ftpg. has a print of: "View On Lake Pontchartrain" in New Orleans.
Four pages of very large size paper measuring 25 by 33 inches, folded three times. This is somewhat of a damaged issue with many tears & creases, but fortunately no damage to the California content. Folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
