January 23, 1871

THE ILLUSTRATED AUSTRALIAN NEWS, Melbourne, Jan. 23, 1871

* Uncommon title from Australia...
* Incredible masthead...  great for display.

Quite difficult to come by this title which is formatted very much like Harper's Weekly but with an obvious emphasis on Australian life. Very decorative masthead.
And of special note: above the dateline is: "Published Expressly For Transmission By R.M.S. Rangoon" meaning this edition was created specifically for transport elsewhere, likely to England & other parts of the Commonwealth.
Among the prints: "Geelong Wharf  During the Wool Season" "Highland Spots...Grounds of the St. Andrew's Hospital, Emerald Hill, Victoria" "Evening, Hobson's Bay" "Natives of the Northern Territory, Port Darwin" "Wollongong Harbor, New South Wales" "The Town of Wollongong, New South Wales" "New Town Hall, Sydney" "...On the Road to martin's Bay New Zealand" and more.
Sixteen pages, various wear at the margins with some margin loss, tape mend to a page 2 margin.
