This is a pair of newspapers with historic reports on noted English Puritan church leader Richard Baxter, referred to by Dean Stanley as "the chief of English Protestant Schoolmen".
The June 1 issue contains a back page report noting: "London, May 30. This afternoon at the Nisi Prius held at the Guild Hall, Mr. Richard Baxter was convicted upon an information for writing and publishing scandalous and seditious notes upon the New Testament".
The July 2 issue contains a back page report which includes: "Mr. Richard Baxter, who was convicted upon an information for writing and publishing scandalous and seditious annotations upon the New Testament, was likewise brought to receive the judgment of the Court, which was, That he pay a fine of 500 Marks, and find sureties for his good-bahaviour for seven years".
Terrific & quite unusual to find a period report on this controversial church leader in a newspaper from the time of his troubles with the law.
Both are complete as single sheet newspapers, measure 6 1/2 by 11 inches, stain to the right, blank margin, nice condition.
