THE PORT FOLIO, Philadelphia, a lot of ten issues from vol. one, 1801

* Lot of (10) early 19th century originals

Edited by Joseph Dennie under the pseudonym "Oliver Oldschool" and Asbury Dickins, it espoused republican values and was the first important political & literary journal in the United States.
The ftpg. of each issue has one of the series:"Journal of a Tour Through Selesia" written by John Quincy Adams. In July, 1800 John Quincy Adams and his wife embarked on an extended tour of Silesia, now southwest Poland. John Quincy chronicled their tour in a series of letters to his brother Thomas. The letters provide a rich description of a European excursion at the dawn of the nineteenth century. They also provide a rare look at a relaxed John Quincy Adams, unfettered by the demands of his position as ambassador to Prussia.
Each issue complete in 8 pages, 9 3/4 by 12 inches, slightly irregular at the spine, good condition.
