April 12, 1968
CHICAGO DAILY DEFENDER, April 6-12, 1968
* Martin Luther King Jr. murder
* Assassination in a Negro publication
This Chicago-based weekly newspaper was founded in 1905 by an African American for primarily African-American readers. As such, this report of the assassination of Martin Luther King is far more rare & desirable than if found in virtually any other newspaper in the country.
And the headline is bold and very dramatic: "KING MURDERED ! " with other smaller heads on the front page: "Threats of Violence Hit City After News" "King's Slaying Termed Blow To Nonviolence". There is also a large photo of King on the front page.
Present are the outer leaves only of the first section, being pages 1, 2, 15 & 16. In very nice condition. A terrific display issue.
