July 12, 1877

GOLD HILL DAILY NEWS, Gold Hill, Nevada, July 12, 1877  A fascinating newspaper from this town just outside of Virginia City, at one point a booming mining town with a population of 8,000. Today it is all but a ghost town with just 191 residents. It was prosperous during the 1870's by mining the famous Comstock Lode.
Not surprisingly a fair amount of mining-related news, but also page 2 has: "Mountain Meadows" "A Reminiscence of John D. Lee's Callous Heartedness" which is a fascinating report (see).
Four pages, archivally rejoined at the spine, some minor margin tears, somewhat fragile & should be handled carefully.
