December 24, 1864

THE DAILY SOUTHERN GUARDIAN, Columbia, South Carolina, Dec. 24, 1864  (year noted on bkpg.)

* Rare Confederate publication
* Nearing the end of the Civil War

A rather rare title and great that it includes the word “Southern”.
The front page has "Maj. Gen. John H. Gordon" "How Hood Was Received" and other items. Also wealth of ads including at least two concerning slaves.
The back has has a wealth of news including: "The Battle of Franklin - An Authentic Description" which is lengthy. Also: "The War News" "Legislature of South Carolina "Why Gen. Buell Resigned which includes a lengthy letter signed by him: D. C. Buell.
Complete as a single sheet issue with wide, untrimmed margins. A very small library stamp above the masthead, TWO small tape mends in margins, bit of light damp staining, good condition.
