November 18, 1693

ATHENIAN MERCURY, London, England, Nov. 14, 1693

* Rare 17th century publication
* Philadelphia Quakers trial book ad

This was a "gentleman's" newspaper very popular in the coffeehouses of early England. Interesting reading on a wide range of topics done in question/answer format. Published at a time when there were no newspapers printing in the American colonies.
The back page has a nice ad for a book: "The JUDGMENT given forth by 28 Quakers on George Keith and his Friends, with Answers to the said Judgment, declaring those 28 Quakers to be No Christians: As also an Appeal (for which several were Imprisoned) by the said George Keith, etc. to the Yearly Meeting, 1692. With a full account of the said Yearly Meeting, Signed by 70 Quakers."
Following this is an ad for another book: "The TRYALS of several Quakers for great Misdemeanors before A Court of Quakers at the Sessions held at Philadelphia in Pensilvania..."
A single sheet newspaper printed on both sides, 7 1/4 by 12 inches, very nice condition.
