June 02, 1865

THE LIBERATOR, Boston, June 2, 1865

* Rare anti-slavery title
* Capture of Richmond
* Abraham Lincoln

This is the famous anti-slavery newspaper by famed abolitionist publisher William Lloyd Garrison. The masthead features two engravings, one of a slave auction and the other showing slaves being emancipated.
All of pages 1 and 2 are taken up with lengthy, continued coverage of the: "American Anti-Slavery Society". Other reports include: "Important Official Paper - Amnesty To Rebels - A Proclamation" signed by the President: Andrew Johnson.
Also: "Surrender Of Rebel Forces West of the Mississippi".
Perhaps the most intriguing article is on the back page: "Phrenological Character of Lincoln, President of the United States", written before his assassination.
Four pages, nice condition.
