July 15, 1863

XENIA TORCH-LIGHT, Ohio, July 15, 1863

* Battle of Gettysburg
* Capture of Vicksburg
* Uncommon publication

This weekly paper has much reporting from the Civil War, not surprisingly some nice coverage of the Battle of Gettysburg and the fall of Vicksburg.
The ftpg. has over a full column: "The Second Day of the Great Battle Near Gettysburg, Thursday, July 2d." Also: "Adjutant General Thomas and Enlistment of Colored Troops" "Details of the Surrender of Vicksburg" and: "Gen. Meade's Address to His Army" The latter is prefaced with: "The following is the text of Gen. Meade's congratulatory address to his troops..." dated "...near Gettysburg, July 4, 1863".
Page 2 has much reporting on the war, not the least of which is: "The Capture of Vicksburg" with several subheads, taking half a column.
Actually a rare issue as Gregory notes only one institution has this issue.
Four pages, large folio size, rejoined at the spine, nice condition. The folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
