March 10, 1933

THE NEW YORK TIMES, March 10, 1933

* United States Bank Holiday
* The Great Depression - Franklin D. Roosevelt
* Early King Kong movie advertisement

The front page has a nice banner headline: "ROOSEVELT EXTENDS THE NATIONAL BANKING HOLIDAY; CONGRESS EMPOWERS HIM TO REOPEN SOUND INSTITUTIONS" with many subheads. Much more on page 2 & 3 with complete text of Roosevelt's messages. Loads of text here, too much to photograph all. This action would have the desired effect of stopping the panic run on the nation's banks, and happened the day after F.D.R. was inaugurated. One of the more historic issues from the Depression-era.
Also of significance is a (Week Two) illustrated advertisement for the movie "King Kong" in it's entertainment section (page 19). This advertisement is from the 2nd week the movie was appearing at Radio City Music Hall making it a great addition for any movie memorabilia collection.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete with 32 pages, rag edition in nice condition.
