THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, April, 1737 Of particular interest is: "Free Masons a Dangerous Society" which takes over a full page and is a great & early Masonic item.Also, near the back is a section headed: "Historical Chronicle" with news from England & other parts of Europe, which includes another item concerning Free Masons.
Among the additional articles noted in the table of contents are: "Observations on the Effects of Tea" "Our Eatables & Drinkables should be of Home Growth" "The Nature of Tea Consider'd" "Bank of England a Public Benefit" "Why Handsome Women Marry Ordinary Men" "For a Tax on Urine, & Female Collectors" and more.
There are no plates or maps called for in this issue.
Complete in 64 pages full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, 5 by 8 inches, nice condition.
A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
