December 18, 1801

NEW ENGLAND PALLADIUM, Boston, Dec. 18, 1801

* President Thomas Jefferson
* State of the Union Address

Half of page 2 is taken up with the: "President's Message" being Jefferson's first state-of-the-union address.
Interesting that it was not delivered in person but rather was distributed in paper form to members of Congress, with the address prefaced by a letter from the President stating why he chose to do this.
The lengthy address--in which he reviews the accomplishments & challenges of the year--is signed in type: Th. Jefferson.
This is followed by: "A letter from the President of the U.S. to Capt. Sterret, commander of the schooner Enterprise", also signed: Th. Jefferson.
Four pages, ornate masthead, very nice condition.
