As noted in the masthead this was the: "Gazette of The Regular & Volunteer Forces" and as such is replete with military news of all sorts.
The front page is mostly taken up with: "The Military Situation" giving the latest reports of battle activities in various fields of operation.
Other reports inside area headed: "Harbor Defence" "Congress & General Howard" "A Legion Of Loyalty" "Casting of a Monster Gun" "Escape Of Union Officers From Richmond" "Army & Navy Personal" "The Spring Campaign in the South-West" "Jeff Davis To His Soldiers" is a lengthy letter to: "Soldiers of the Armies of the Confederate States" signed in type: Jefferson Davis, and begins: "In the long & bloody war in which your country is engaged you have achieved many noble triumphs. You have won glorious victories over vastly more numerous hosts...".
Included also is 16 page "Supplement" issue which is mostly taken up with the: "Report of Major-General George B. McClellan" with many correspondences signed by McClellan as well as many signed by: A. Lincoln as well.
Has 32 pages in total, 10 by 14 1/3 inches, nice eagle in the masthead, minor loss at the blank spine of the first leaf, nice condition.
