February 24, 1848

NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington (D.C.), Feb. 24, 1848

* President John Quincy Adams death
* Best title to be had ?

Page 3 has at the top center: "Death Of Ex-President Adams" with the report beginning: "The venerable Patriot and Statesman, John Quincy Adams, expired at the Capitol last evening...He lingered...insensible & unconscious from the period of his attack on Monday until an hour after sunset last evening when he gently breathed his last..." with more (see).  Following this report is another headed: "Public Meeting" which prints a notice beginning: "A Patriarch has gone to his rest---a link between the past and present generation is broken---a Sage and Patriot has fallen at his post!..." with more (see images).
Both of these reports have black borders, and all of pages 2 and 3 have wide black mourning rules as well. Adams died in Washington, so it is significant to have this report in a Washington newspaper.
Four pages, slightly rough left spine, but overall very nice.
