November 14, 1818

COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Boston, Nov. 14, 1818  The front page has: "Execution of Hamilton" from Albany, which notes at the beginning: "On Thursday James Hamilton was executed in this city for the murder of Major Birdsall last summer...his fate excited much sympathy, and his execution was witnessed by more than 1000 people...".
Shortly before his execution Hamilton wrote his final words of thanks to many for how he was treated, printed here (see). It is signed in type: James Hamilton.
The first attempt at the hanging failed, so he had to ascend the scaffold and submit himself to a second hanging.
Four pages, some damp staining, good condition.
