NEW YORK HERALD, May 11, 1869

* Completing the Transcontinental railroad
* Last spike driven at Promontory Point

A great issue celebrating the completion of the historic transcontinental railroad. East meets West.
The first column begins with nice heads: "THE PACIFIC RAILROAD" "The Last Rail Laid and the Last Spike Drive" "San Francisco and New York Linked to Each Other" "Celebration of the Event Throughout the United States" with a wealth of other subheads.
The text is headed: "Official Announcement of the Competition of the Road--The Point of Junction, Promontory Summit, Utah, May 10, 1869" It reads: "The last rail is laid--the last spike driven. The Pacific Railroad is complete. The point of junction is 1,086 miles east of Sacramento City." signed by Leland Stanford and T. C. Durant among others.
Photos show some of the additional reports and the celebration.
Twelve pages, great condition.
