An inside page contains a fine report on one of the more famous battles of the entire 19th century, immortalized by the John Wayne movie & remade on the big screen in recent years as well.
Headed: "FROM TEXAS--Fall Of San Antonio and Massacre of the Texian Troops" this report gives the details of the Battle of the Alamo through several accounts. They contain considerable detail including the fates of Travis & Jim Bowie among others. This text takes nearly a full page and includes a letter signed by Sam Houston.
This fine report is followed by the: "Letter From Col. Travis to the President of the Convention" datelined from the Alamo, March 3, 1836, which was during the siege of the Alamo by Santa Anna's forces and just 3 days before the final & tragic assault. The letter is signed: W. Barrett Travis and his concluding statement is: "God and Texas--Victory or Death!!" The letter also has a P.S. reading: "The enemy's troops are still arriving, and the reinforcement will probably amount to two or three thousand."
This letter is followed by yet another significant letter from the assistant inspector general for the army of Texas, emphasizing the plight of the forces at the Alamo.
The photos show the entire coverage, which is simply too lengthy to detail here. A terrific wealth of very historic reading.
