NEW YORK TIMES, Nov. 25, 1871
* Creation of the NRA, the National Rifle Association
The bottom of pg. 3 has a brief & inconspicuous report which is very significant to the founding of the NRA, the National Rifle Association. As the internet notes, the NRA was founded in 1871 by Capt. Wingate and Col. Church, both mentioned in this report. Papers for incorporation were sent the week previous on Nov. 17, and this report notes: "A meeting of the incorporators of the National Rifle Association was held at the office of G. W. Wingate...yesterday afternoon. There were present..." followed by a list of the officers where elected, most notably: "President, Major-Gen. Burnside; Vice President, Col. W. C. Church..." and more, with mention of the members of the executive committee (see). Great report on the creation of the NRA.
Much other news of the day including a ftpg. item concerning the Ku Klux Klan in Florida.
Eight pages, great condition.
