October 22, 1831

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Oct. 22, 1831

* re. Anti-slavery publication "Liberator"
* Davy Crockett & George Washington

The bottom of the front page has a small article beginning: "I have received a copy of the 'Liberator', and come in for a share of the editor's reproof for having said that 'a sudden emancipation of the slaves, either by force or through principle', would be an awful calamity..." with more. This was from the very first year of this famous newspaper by William Lloyd Garrison, which would survive until shortly after the end of the Civil War.
Among other reports in this issue are: "Franklin Institute" "Anti Masonry" (masonic) "Mr. Crockett" "The Memory of George Washington, the Father of His Country" and more.
Sixteen pages, 6 1/2 by 9 3/4 inches, very nice condition.

As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
