THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, October, 1751 There is a very interesting & large foldout plate of: "A Self-Moving Wheel", being a perpetual motion machine. This plate folds out to measure 9 1/2 by 10 1/2 inches and is in very nice condition (with a related article).
Over three pages are taken up with a report on Moses from the Bible as he relates to beliefs among the Jews (see for the beginning).
A full page plate has engravings of 8 antique lamps with a related article. Another full page is taken up with a print of: "An Accurate Engine for Weighing Road Carriages" with a related article.
Other items in this issue include: "Subterranean Geography, three Bands" "Mankind, the Offspring of God" "Moon's Eclipse & Transit" "Irish Hospitality, Love, and Poetry" "Miraculous Cure by anointing with Holy Oil in Faith" and various poems. Included is a report with a "Kingston in Jamaica" dateline.
Complete in 48 pages, full title/index page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate. 5 1/2 by 8 3/4 inches with untrimmed margins, nice condition.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
