March 24, 1864

THE PALMETTO HERALD, Port Royal, South Carolina, March 24, 1864

* Very rare Yankee occupation title

This Southern coastal town was captured by Yankee naval forces late in 1861 and remained a base for other operations along the Atlantic coast. An uncommon Yankee title from this otherwise Confederate stronghold. This is just the volume 1, number 4 issue with content including: "On Guard" "Medals of Honor" "Union Refugees From Charleston" "Gen. Gillmore & the Capture of Fort Pulaski" "More Rebel Demonstrations in This Vicinity" "Night Attack on Seabrook" and much more.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, 10 by 14 inches, small piece from the blank spine, nice condition.
