November 26, 1940

THE NEW YORK TIMES, November 26, 1940

* Warsaw, Poland Ghetto established
* Jewish - Jews - Judaica
* Nazi-occupied Europe

Page 8 has a two column heading announcning: "Walls Will Enclose Warsaw Jews Today; 500,000 Begin 'New Life' in Nazi-Built Ghetto" First report coverage on the establishment of the largest Jewish Ghetto in Nazi-occupied Europe. Most of the residents in this famous area would eventually be exterminated by the Nazis during the war. I suspect this is one of the few publications to report this particular event as other titles in our inventory do not.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day with much more on World War II. Complete in 48 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Very nice condition.
