AI notes: On June 10, 1777, during the American Revolutionary War, a notable engagement occurred known as the Battle of Bound Brook in New Jersey. British forces under Lord Cornwallis launched a surprise attack on the small American garrison commanded by General Benjamin Lincoln at Bound Brook, which was part of the Continental Army’s defensive positions along the Watchung Mountains. The Americans were caught off guard, and while the British succeeded in inflicting casualties and temporarily dispersing the troops, Lincoln and his forces managed to retreat in good order, avoiding total destruction. The battle was relatively small in scale but highlighted the ongoing skirmishing and raids that characterized the New Jersey campaign of 1777, demonstrating the British strategy of aggressive probing and the Americans’ reliance on mobility and local knowledge.
