April 18, 1947

CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE, April 18, 1947

* Jackie Robinson gets 1st hit in MLB
* 1st Negro baseball player

* Texas City explosion disaster

Page 29 has a one column heading: "Rookie Helps Dodgers Cuff Braves, 12-6" with box scores. Text includes: "Infielder Jackie Robinson collected his first safety in a National league game..." (see) This was Robinson's first ever hit in MLB and it was a bunt. This is actually the first hit by a African American in Major League Baseball as well. Always nice to have notable events in history reporteda in this World famous publication.
Complete with all 42 pages, light toning at the margins, small library stamp within the masthead, small binding holes along the spine, generally very nice.
