Item # 657760 THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, August, 1766 Articles within this issue include: "...Act for Opening & establishing certain ports in the Islands of Jamaica and Dominica for the more free importation and exportation..." "On the Doctrine of Original Sin" 'An Improvement in Common Watches" which includes a print of the gears and workings of a watch (see), and more.
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has various news reports of the day and which includes: "Arrived in London, the Indian chiefs with their ladies...they are chiefs of two of the five tribes of Iroquois Indians, inhabiting the country between New York and Lake Ontario...remarkably tall and strong, of a brown shining complexion, are dressed afer the Indian manner and are remarkably warlike in their appearance..." with more (see). There is also a section headed: "American News" which takes three-quarters of a column (see).
The only plate called for in this issue is present, being a nice foldout map showing the road from London to Berwick and York. This map folds out to 8 1/2 by 12 inches.
Complete in 56 pages, 5 1/4 by 8 1/2 inches with full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate. Very good condition.

A nice issue of this very famous & successful British magazine from this significant year of the Stamp Act, and some ten years before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War.
