October 17, 1849

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Oct. 17, 1849

* California gold rush fever

Page 3 has most of a column headed: "California Correspondence" which is mostly taken up with a fascinating & very detailed letter from San Francisco, August 19. It has some fine reports from the gold regions, including: "...in my opinion individual gold digging will soon end. Four out of five of those engaged are completely tired out, many are sick..." plus too much to detail here. See the photos.
Also on page 3: "The California Convention" is a report on the convention to create a constitution for California so they can join the union (they will in 1850).
Four pages, very nice condition.
