December 30, 1820

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Dec. 30, 1820  Over half of the front page is taken up with an article: "Slave Population" which deals with the controversy of slavery in Missouri as it contemplates statehood, ultimately to be resolved by the Missouri Compromise.
Finishing out the ftpg. & carrying over to page 2 is: "Our Indians". Page 2 also has: "The Slave Trade". Keeping with this theme the back page has: "From Sierra Leone" which concerns a ship which: "...was sent out by our government...with a number of people of color to effect a settlement in Africa..." which proved unsuccessful. And then also an article on: "Esquimaux [Eskimo] Indians" which is descriptive of them.
Sixteen pages, 6 by 9 1/2 inches, very nice condition.

As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
