* The original Brown Derby restaurant closes
*
Wilshire Boulevard location
* Constructed in the shape of a brown derby

After decades of being known as one of the key hang-outs for Hollywood's elite, the original Brown Derby closes. This issue provides content related to both the closing and the temporary delay in demolition resulting from "mime" protestors and the efforts of Glory Daily, owner and daughter of the Academy Award winning actress Gloria Swanson, the wife of the original owner, Herbert K. Somborn.

The front page has: "Brown Derby Saved - For Now," with an inside page showing two images of the "mime" protestors with a 4-column heading, "Pickets Delay Destruction of Brown Derby Restaurant." Additional coverage extends to another page, and is headed: "DESTRUCTION OF DERBY DELAYED." The text of the coverage is quite significant. See images for details.

This is the complete first section, having 24 pages, and is in very good condition.

Note: The last remaining restaurant of this famous chain (although not directly related to the original), is located in Disney World, Florida. The 2nd restaurant, built in 1929 on North Vine Street in Hollywood, is the home of the original Cobb Salad.
