July 03, 1863

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., July 3, 1863  Although page 2 has some nice accounts of the Civil War including the latest on the siege of Vicksburg: "A Little Later From Vicksburg" "Rebel News" "Military Orders of General Lee" and other items, perhaps the most notable content is on page 3 with coverage of the Battle of Gettysburg.
Some of the column heads include: "A Great Battle At Gettysburg" with a dateline of July 2, being the 2nd of the 3-day battle there. This is followed by: "Some Further Particulars" of the Battle of Gettysburg. Also on pg.2 are: "A
Battle In Pennsylvania--Gen. Reynolds & Gen. Paul Killed" "More Fighting" "A Fight at Carlisle" "From Bloody Run" & "The War on the Susquehanna". There is also a letter signed in type by: A. Lincoln, concerning the removal of General Curtis. Also: "Accident To Mrs. Lincoln".
Page 2 has more, with: "Gen. Meade's Address to the Army" which includes: "...The enemy is now on our soil. The whole country looks anxiously to the army to deliver it from the presence of the foe...". Plus there is a letter signed int type by: R. E. Lee, General, datelines at Chambersburg, Pa., June 27.
A wealth of fine content on the early battles at Gettysburg, and much more as well.
Four pages, very nice condition.
