July 07, 1863

NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., July 7, 1863

* Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
* Most historic battle of the Civil War

A great issue on the Battle of Gettysburg with most of the front page taken up with related reports, some quite detailed.
Among the column heads are: "BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG" "Victorious News" "LEE DEFEATED" "Gen. Hill And Gen. Longstreet Wounded and Prisoners" "Lee's Pontoon Bridges Destroyed" "THE THREE DAYS' BATTLES" "Unofficial Details" "The Enemy Defeated, and His Dead and Wounded Left on the Field". The text is lengthy & very detailed, carrying over to page 4.
Page 2 has some additional reporting with a column headed: "The Battle of Friday", and page 3 has a nice editorial headed: "The Defeat Of Gen. Lee", and then items such as: "The Captured Despatches to Gen. Lee - The Object of His Invasion" "Congratulatory Order of Gen.Meade" and even more.
Being a tri-weekly publication, this issue has the advantage of reporting several days of the battle--including the final events of July 3--rather than just one day's reports as would be found in a daily newspaper. And great to have this content in this famous title from the nation's capital.
Complete in 4 pages, pages 2 & 3 are printed a bit askew on the paper causing some text to run off the page o pg. 2 but none of the reports mentioned above. Otherwise very nice condition.
