The issue begins with a continuation of: "A Concise History of the Late War In America" taking 8 pages. Also: "Account of the Preparations at Gray's Ferry on the River Schuylkill & the Reception of General Washington there, April 20, 1789, on his way to the Seat of the Federal Government to take upon him the High Office of President of the United States" (lacking the plate noted). "Account of the Manner of Receiving, at Trenton, his Excellency George Washington...on his Route to the Seat of Federal Government..." and more.
Near the back is "The Chronicle" with the latest news reports, and under "United States" is the response of the House to Washington's inauguration, responded to by Washington. Following this is the senate's response to Washington's inauguration, singed: John Adams, with Washington's response signed in type: G. Washington. This is followed by an interesting discussion in Congress as to a title to be given the President (see).
Complete in 60 pages, full title/contents page, lacking the two plates called for, 5 by 8 inches. Three leaves near the back have portions of the margin lacking causing minor text loss. Various foxing throughout.
This title has the honor of being the first successful American magazine, having begun in September, 1786 and lasting until December, 1792.
