Near the bottom of the front page is a two column heading: "Niemoeller Freed in Reich, Then Rearrested; Is Seized After Conviction at Sedition Trial" First report coverage on anti-Nazi theologian, Reverend Martin Niemöller, freed then rearrested. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 42 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.
Note: While Reverend Niemöller was already well-known, he is currently best-known for his famous quote regarding his arrest:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Since this quote did not come until much later in his life, it is not within this newspaper report.
