August 06, 1926

LEOMINSTER DAILY ENTERPRISE, August 6 & 7, 1926 (two issue set)

* Gertrude Ederle... Queen of the Waves
* becomes 1st woman to swim across the English Channel

The key issue is the August 7th issue, which has the headline: "GERTRUDE EDERLE SWIMS THE CHANNEL IN RECORD TIME,' with subhead, "19-Year-Old New York Girl As Aquatic Wonder - First of Her Sex to Accomplish the Feat - Was in the Water 14 Hours and 31 Minutes - Finish Intensely Thrilling - In Fine Fettle When She Came Out," with a nice supporting photo of her in the water. Additional supporting text is present as well.
The previous issue is also include (August 6th), as it includes the brief front page article, "Another Woman Attempts to Swim the English Channel," which states the going is quite rough. Although the article says she is still swimming strong, it's heading certainly does not arouse confidence in its readers - which provides a great back-story to her accomplishment the following day.

The August 6th issue is complete, and the August 7th issue contains the first 7 of 14 page. Both issues are complete, and although brittle, are actually quite nice condition. See images for details.
