February 27, 1783

THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, Feb. 27, 1783  Inside has one-third of a page taken up with the: "Copy of the Commission of the United States of America, to John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, Henry Laurens, and Thomas Jefferson, Esqrs. June 15, 1781." The document--signed in type by the President & Secretary of Congress--formally appoints these men as ambassadors in Europe to negotiate for a peace to end the Revolutionary War.
Eight pages, 8 1/4 by 11 1/4 inches, very nice condition.
