A column at the top of pg. 4 has reports disputing whether Jesse James had been murdered or not: "DEAD OR ALIVE?" "In Either Event Jesse James Foils the detectives" "The Search for the Stiff Continued Without Success" 'His Alleged Assassin Frightened Out of His Wits". It was previously reported that Jesse James had been killed, but now this is in question. He, in fact, would not be killed until April, 1882.
