November 06, 1861

THE DAILY DELTA, New Orleans, Nov. 6, 1861  Truly Confederate newspapers from New Orleans are very difficult to find, as Admiral Farragut entered the mouth of the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862 and finally took New Orleans on April 28. Shortly thereafter Benjamin Butler moved in and took control of the city, it surrendering without a fight. So "Confederate" issues from New Orleans are limited to those published between Louisiana's secession from the Union on January 26, 1861 and the end of April, 1862, just a brief 15 month period.
The front page includes; "Election for Presidential Electors" "What the Morning Journals Say" which gives war-related reports from other newspapers; "The Roll of the Drum" "Great Disappointment" which has near the beginning: "The telegraphic news of yesterday created immense disappointment throughout our city. The small proportions of the terrible armada which was to desolate the Southern coast..." with more. Also of significance: "Important From Missouri--The Ordinance of Secession Passed" (see photos). Other items as well.
Page 2 includes: "From Savannah", "Naval Engagement at Port Royal", "Forty-Two Vessels Off Port Royal", "Special Dispatches to the Delta--The Rumor of Gen. Beauregard's Resignation", "From the Seat Of War in Virginia", "Disunion At The North" and "By the President--A Proclamation" which is signed in type by: Jefferson Davis. Most of pages 3 & 4 are taken up with ads.
Four pages, old tape at the bottom blank margins of pages 2 & 4, very nice, clean condition.
