Near the back is a letter to the King which contains a request and suggested resolutions providing for the safe passage and free trade of subjects of the King an and about the Americas. The response from the King includes: "I am sensibly touch'd with the many hardships & injuries sustained by my trading subjects in America from the cruelties & unjust depredations of the Spaniards...".
Among the articles noted in the table of contents are: "Characters of Queen Elizabeth & King James I by a French Ambassador" "Chaucer the Father of English Poetry" "Tempting of Adam not Satan's first Sin" "A Dog Endow'd with an Extraordinary Gift" "The Earth Compared with Surrounding Bodies" "Mr. Locke's Observation of Madmen" and more.
No plates or maps are called for.
Complete in 56 pages, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, 5 1/2 by 8 3/4 inches with wide untrimmed margins, very nice condition.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
