Naming countries to honor Cook and Columbus...

Item # 639919 THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London,  December, 1795  Included is an interesting letter suggesting that some countries be re-named since both noted explorers Capt. Cook and Columbus have not been recognized with countries named for them (see images).
Included are full page plates called for.
Complete in 88 pages, 5 by 8 inches, full title/contents page with an engraving of St. John's Gate, some lite scattered foxing, otherwise in very good condition

A very nice magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
