Labor Day Hurricane of 1935...

Item # 633762

September 05, 1935

THE NEW YORK TIMES, September 5, 1935

* The strongest U.S. hurricane hits the South
* The Labor Day Hurricane - tropical cyclone

The front page has a three column headline: "HURRICANE TOLL EXCEEDS 200; 164 TAKEN FROM THE DIXIE WHEN GALE HALTS RESCUES" with many subheads. (see) Lengthy text continues inside. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 46 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Very nice condition.
