THE NEW YORK TIMES, August 2, 1931

* Inventor Thomas Edison becomes ill
* Prelude to his death shortly after ?

The front page has a one column heading: "THOMAS EDISON ILL; DOCTOR FLIES TO HIM" with subheads. (see) Coverage continues inside with photo. (see) Edison would die about 2 months later.
Other news of the day. Complete 1st section only with all 26 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. A little spine wear, otherwise in very nice condition.
