October 24, 1931

THE NEW YORK TIMES, October 24, 1931

* Gangster Al 'Scarface' Capone
* Day of his sentencing (11 years)

* The end of his criminal career

Page 9 has one column headings that include: "ARGUMENTS PUT OFF SENTENCE OF CAPONE" "Judge After Hearing Duel of Lawyers Says He Will Take Action Today" "Session Bores Gangster" and more. (see) This was the day that Capone would be sentenced to 11 years. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day throughout. Complete in 38 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.
