NEW YORK OBSERVER, September 29, 1881
* President James Garfield's funeral
* President Arthur's proclamation for a Day of Humiliation and Prayer
* Mohammed's [MuḼammad's] pledge or Covenant of protection for Christians, written while in El Medina, 622-632 AD.
Page 2 has over five columns regarding the funeral and burial of James A. Garfield. This coverage is followed by new-President Chester A. Arthur's proclamation for a Day of of Humiliation and Prayer, signed in block type: "CHESTER A. ARTHUR, By the President". However, perhaps the most interesting item is the front page 2 1/2 column article related to a previously known but newly unearthed pledge or Covenant of Protection given by Muhammad (spelled Mohammed in the article) to Christians - written by him while in El Medina, sometime from 622-632 AD.
Complete in four pages, some light staining, but otherwise in nice condition.
