John Adams delivers his credentials to the King...



Item # 625993 GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, June, 1785  Among the articles are: "Curious Caves on the Elephanta Island" near India; "Epitaph Proposed by Dr. Fordyce for Samuel Johnson" and so much more. Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has various news reports of the day, which includes a report: "This day John Adams, minister plenipotentiary from the United States of America, had a private audience of his majesty, to deliver his credentials. This day Col. Smith (late aid-de-camp to Gen. Washington, arrived, in character of secretary to his excellency John Adams, esq. ambassador and plenipotentiary from the United States of America to the court of Great Britain." (Historical note: Col. Smith was married to Adams' daughter Abigail "Nabby" Adams.) 
A bit further on is a brief item: "John Adams, Esq., Minister Plenipotentiary from the United States of America, had a private audience of her Majesty." 
Included are both plates called for including a foldout: "View near Litchfield...", and a fullpg. showing "Spoon, Glove, and Boot of King Henry VI, etc."
Complete in 84 pages, 5 by 8 inches, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, great condition.
