THE CLEVELAND LEADER, Ohio, Sept. 26, 1881
* President James S. Garfield death
* Best title to have ?
See the photos for the terrific & very unusual front page of this issue, which is a huge graphic on the death of President Garfield in the shape of a monument. It looks more like a broadside than the front page of a daily newspaper. Reporting begins on page 3 and continues on page 2. Note also that Garfield is from a suburb of Cleveland making this essentially a hometown newspaper. He is buried in Cleveland.
Eight pages with all columns on all pages black bordered in mourning for Garfield. Never bound nor trimmed, two folds with a pg. 2 archival repair at the fold juncture, minor tears at the spine margin, some foxing mostly near folds & margins.
